Visakhapatnam: The negligence of panchayat staff led to a tragic incident in Tunivalasa village, Cheedikada Mandal, Anakapalli district, resulting in the death of two children. The unfortunate event unfolded when improperly discarded garbage exploded on the roadside, inflicting severe injuries on the two children who were in the vicinity.

Despite having a designated dumping yard on the village outskirts, locals continued to dispose of garbage haphazardly on the roadside. The panchayat staff, responsible for removing and managing the waste, reportedly neglected their duties, allowing the garbage to accumulate dangerously. The situation took a fatal turn when glass bottles within the rubbish exploded, injuring the nearby children.

The injured were rushed to Chodavaram for immediate treatment. One child with severe injuries near the ear was shifted to Visakhapatnam KGH. Both children lost their lives while undergoing medical treatment.

Panchayat secretary, Anusha, has confirmed the incident and said the glass bottles had exploded while burning the garbage on the roadside. She assured that steps would be taken to prevent such incidents from recurring and urged both the villagers and panchayat staff to exercise caution in waste management.
