Swarajya Maidan readying for Ambedkar statue unveiling
Vijayawada: Vijayawada Municipal Corporation commissioner Swapnil Dinkar Pundkar said final touch-ups are in full swing for inauguration of the 125-foot-tall B.R. Ambedkar statue at the Swarajya Maidan in Vijayawada on January 19.
Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy will be unveiling this tallest statue. All arrangements are being made by the Municipal Administration and Urban
Development departments under the supervision of special chief secretary Y. Sri Lakshmi.
Municipal commissioners Swapnil (Vijayawada), Dinesh Kumar (Rajamahendravaram), Bhargav Tej (Kurnool), and chiefs of various urban development authorities are working for successful unveiling of Dr. Ambedkar's statue and inauguration of the Smrithi Vanam, spread over 18.81 acres of land in the heart of Vijayawada.
Speaking on the occasion, Sri Lakshmi said Smrithi Vanam has been decked up with different types of attractive fountains. The Chief Minister will both unveil the statue and inaugurate the Smrithi Vanam, which also houses a museum depicting the life history of Dr. Ambedkar, framer of Indian Constitution.
