Thrissur: Ollukkara councillor and local CPM leader Sateesh Chandran was booked by Mannuty police over the case regarding murder of a Yuva Morcha worker at Mukkattukara on Sunday night. Mannuty police have registered cases against nine persons over the incident by invoking section 302 IPC for murder. On Sunday morning, BJP district president A Nagesh had alleged that the CPM councillor and a team of CPM goons were behind the murder of the youth. Meanwhile, the dawn to dusk hartal in the district called by BJP on Monday over murder of  20-year-old Nirmal during a temple festival at Kokulangara near Mukkattukara on Sunday night derailed the normal life in Thrissur town.

All the shops in Thrissur town remained closed and private buses along with autorickshaws and taxis cars kept off the roads. Only long-distance KSRTC buses were seen on the roads with support of convoy. Though some shops had opened in Thrissur town on Monday morning by the traders who were unaware of the hartal announced late on Sunday, BJP workers forcibly closed these shops.

Nirmal, 20, of Poradan house along with his friend from Nayarang-adi, Chiriyankandathu Thomas, suffered severe injuries during the violence that erupted during the temple festival in the locality. Though both were rushed to the nearby private hospital, Nirmal eventually succumbed to his injuries. The condition of Thomas remains critical, as per sources.
