15 students fall ill, faint due to smoke from lit garbage

 KAKINADA: Fifteen students fell ill and fainted in the classroom of a private school in Bandarulanka village in Amalapuram Rural of the BR Ambedkar Konaseema District on Monday. Police said they inhaled toxic fumes from a fire in the neighbourhood.

"The resident of a house adjacent to the school set fire to the garbage in his premises, including plastic, pipes, carbons etc. The smoke spread all over the place and the students faced suffocation problems," police explained.

The affected students were rushed to the Area Hospital at Amalapuram. Doctors said the students’ condition was stable. District collector Himanshu Shukla visited the hospital and asked the police to take action against the person who lit the fire.
