Free Wi-Fi at Kerala Secretariat annex too
The number of concurrent users would go up to 1,300 during peak hours.
Thiruvananthapuram: Free wi-fi internet access in the Secretariat premises is being extended to the two Secretariat annex buildings. The free usage limit per day may also be enhanced from 30 minutes at present to 100 mb. The government issued the orders extending the free wi-fi facility to the annex building. Railtel Corporation is implementing the project that anyone can use. Free wi-fi internet facility was introduced in the Secretariat premises in March 2016. At present about 3,500 persons are using the facility every day. The number of concurrent users would go up to 1,300 during peak hours.
The facility at the annex would be an extension of the present facility at the main campus. At present the bandwidth of the facility is 40 mbps. It would be enhanced to 100 mbps. The number of access points in the main campus is 34. As many as 80 access points would be installed in the two annex buildings. A maximum of 300 persons can get connected from one access point at a time and hence nearly 25,000 persons can access the free internet in Secretariat and annex premises concurrently. But a Kerala State IT Mission official said that with the extension of the facility to the annexe, the maximum number of concurrent users was expected to be only 3000 now. But it may go up in a phased manner, he added.
