Power utilities ready to meet 17000 MW peak demand: Prabhakar Rao

HYDERABAD: Telangana Transco and Genco chairman and managing director D. Prabhakar Rao said that the state’s contracted power capacity of 18,528MW was more than the double of when Telangana state was formed, 7,778MW.

Projects to generate 8,035 MW were under various stages of development. He said all four units of Bhadradri Thermal Power Station (4x270MW) were commissioned and the works at 5x800MW Yadadri thermal power station have been expedited and would be commissioned by next year, Rao said.

The CMD was speaking after offering  floral tributes to the portrait of Dr B.R. Ambedkar on his birth anniversary at Vidyut Soudha here on Friday. He said close monitoring with precise planning and the diligence of employees under the guidance of Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao had helped the power utilities supply quality power to all categories.

The transmission and distribution network has been augmented with an investment of Rs 39,092 crore. The state grid has met the highest peak demand of 15,497 MW on March 30 and recorded the highest  consumption of 297.89MU on March 14.
