Hyderabad: The global icon of Hyderabad, Charminar, woke up to the Hyderabad Heritage Run on Sunday aimed at showcasing the iconic monument and its beauty after the completion of the pedestrianisation project.

About 2,500 participants took part in the run, Mr Mushrraf Faruqi, GHMC commissioner in charge of the pedestrianisation project said. The oldest runner was 66 years old.

The monument was lit from Friday night till Saturday afternoon using LED lights, rather than floodlights as is done. Intach, Hyderabad, convener, said the lighting highlighted features on the monuments that were not seen even during the day.

Mr Sai Tallapragada, a lighting consultant from International Association of Lighting Designers, who was involved in the project, said four kinds of lights were used to light up Charminar.

The 5K run participants ran up to Falaknuma and returned to Charminar. Those participating in the 10K run went up to the Chandrayangutta flyover, did a 1.4-km loop from the Taj Falaknuma security gate and returned to the monument.
