Kozhikode: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Tuesday said his government was willing to hand over the Jishnu Pranoy death case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) though there were legal hurdles. Speaking to the media after visiting the CPM district committee office that came under attack, he said Jishnu’s father Ashokan K.P. was informed of the decision when he visited him at the Government Guest House here raising the family’s concerns.

The family believes the investigating team had tampered with evidence. His uncle K.K. Sreejith said only a CBI investigation could bring justice to them as they lost faith in the Kerala police. “There were attempts to tamper with evidence from the beginning itself, and even the FIR can not be taken into consideration. A fresh probe by the national agency is our only demand now to find out the truth,” he told DC.

The CM also said he already had discussions on the same with the DGP. Jishnu’s relatives had visited DGP T.P. Senkumar, and he assured them that police would not resist handing over the case. According to his mother Mahija, gross lapses had occurred in the investigation in the initial stage and evidence destroyed. She also expressed disappointment as nothing had happened after the government offered quick action following her protest in Thiruvananthapuram.
