TIRUPATI: Leaders of several political parties, including CPI, CPI(M) and Telugu Desam, met at the CPI district office at Santhapeta in Nellore to discuss construction of a toll plaza at Kanuparthipadu junction on National Highway 16, which falls within the jurisdiction of Nellore Municipal Corporation (NMC).

The leaders expressed concern that construction of the toll plaza at Kanuparthipadu will lead to increased traffic within Nellore city. This is because many vehicles will enter the city, instead of paying money and passing through the toll plaza on the national highway. This, the leaders argue, will raise the risk of accidents in Nellore city.

CPI district secretary Malakondaiah and CPI(M) leader M. Venkateswarlu said the National Highways Authority of India has violated the guidelines by locating the toll plaza within the NMC limits. They warned that if the NHAI does not halt the construction, they would intensify their protest.

Nellore mayor Potluri Sravanthi has expressed her support to anti-toll plaza movement and pledged to participate in it actively. Other leaders present included TD's Kotamreddy Giridhar Reddy and CPI's A. Sai and Syed Siraj.
