Kerala police, NSS to collect relief

Thiruvananthapuram/ Kochi: The Kerala Police along with some voluntary organisations has initiated a drive to collect essential commodities for distribution to people at flood-affected areas.
Used materials and cash will not be accepted. The collection centres are at Sri Mulam Club Community Hall in Thiruvananthapuram, Regional Sports Centre in Kochi, Kerala Police Academy in Thrissur and KAP IV Battalion in Kannur. Collection will be from 7.30 am to 9 pm. Women Battalion commandant R, Nishanthini is coordinating the initiative.(Mobile 94465 59894).
The technical team of the National Service Scheme at the MITS (Muthoot Institute of Technology and Science) has initiated a post-flood relief programme.
They distributed essential materials to the flood victims in association with the Anbodu Kochi. Some 48 families in the Paravoor area received 3 kg rice packets.
"We are also planning to help repair their damaged houses and launch a cleaning and maintenance initiative," said Prins Korah, programme officer of the Muthoot Institute of Technology and Science team. "In the remaining camps on the Aluva - Paravur route, Union C hristian College, Aluva started cleaning, and we are joining them next day."

"We are planning to cancel the Onam programmes and give that amount to the flood victims," said Mr Korah.
Karumalloor panchayat president G.D. Shiju who joined them lauded their efforts. "To support and help these people is great," he said. "It's highly necessary to launch the post-flood relief programmes."
Meanwhile, Ernakulam MLA Hibi Eden distributed kits of necessary items to families returning home.
