KAKINADA: The Amalapuram divisional police have announced a cash reward of Rs 5,000 for individuals who aid in the capture or provide information regarding the whereabouts of the culprits involved in a recent gold ornament theft from an elderly couple.

According to Amalapuram DSP M. Ambika Prasad, two unidentified individuals in their 30s to 40s visited the residence of an elderly couple residing in Anathavaram village, located within the Mummidivaram mandal, on August 7. Under the pretence of offering a polish to their collection of golden ornaments, the duo managed to gain the trust of the couple. The elderly couple handed over a total of 41 grams of gold ornaments to the thieves, who then proceeded to place the items inside a cooking utensil. They spread turmeric powder on the articles, using it as a distraction to divert the couple's attention before making a swift escape with the ornaments.

CCTV cameras within the vicinity managed to capture footage of the criminals in action. DSP Ambika Prasad urged the public to report any information regarding their identities or whereabouts to the Mummidivaram police at 9440796564 and 9440796528. He emphasised the importance of vigilance and cautioned against falling victim to such deceitful individuals. The contact details of informants will be treated with utmost confidentiality, and those providing substantial leads will be eligible for the Rs 5,000 reward.
