Hyderabad: National BC Welfare Association president R. Krishnaiah, a YSRC Rajya Sabha member from AP, on Sunday wrote to Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao demanding financial assistance for students from the BC communities who are pursuing engineering and medical courses.

In his letter, Krishnaiah said that the government had implemented fee reimbursement for students till 2014. After that year, the government imposed restrictions on sanctioning funds for the scheme.

"The government only provides Rs 35,000 for engineering courses, Rs 27,000 for MCA, MBA and Pharmacy students. In many colleges, the managements collect Rs 35,000 and this is a financial burden for students and their parents from the BC communities,” he said.

“The government provides fee reimbursement only for some communities among the BCs. The government does not provide financial assistance for Hindu students of BC communities. Why is the government discriminating in providing financial assistance? The government must consider providing fee reimbursement for all BC students," Krishnaiah demanded.

The majority of castes in the BC community such as Kummari, Goud, Yadava, Kammari, Viswa Brahmana, Vaddera, Chakali, Mangali, Besta, Valmiki, Jangam, Tammali, and others are in financial trouble and need to be provided financial assistance for the studies of their children.
