BHUBANESWAR: Low-pressure induced incessant rains on Wednesday triggered landslides at many places in Odisha, affected road and railway communications.

While many roads remained cut-off as rain water flowed over them, train services between Tikiri and Laliguma in Koraput district under the Waltair Division were affected as stones rolled down from the nearby hills choked the tracks.

The East Coast Railway (ECoR) on Wednesday cancelled two trains and diverted another train after a boulder and uprooted trees fell on tracks connecting Bhubaneswar via Rayagada. There are also reports of mudslides.

As per official sources, Jagdalpur-Rourkela and Rourkela- Jagdalpur trains were cancelled for the day. Similarly, the route of the Jagdalpur-Bhubaneswar Hirakhand Express was diverted by Vizianagaram in Andhra Pradesh.

A quick action team from Koraput along with the engineering staff rushed to the spot to assess the situation.

Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam and Khurda districts experienced heavy rainfall activities for the past three to four days.

Railway tracks at some other portions in Koraput were also reportedly submerged in the rain water. The situation is likely to return to normalcy after rainfall activity subsides.
