Tirupati: Telugu Desam in SPSR Nellore district has taken the lead in starting a ₹1 crore legal aid fund. The fund is to help TD leaders and workers fight cases that are being slapped against them in the wake of arrest of their party chief N. Chandrababu Naidu.

TD national general secretary Beeda Ravichandra mooted the proposal for starting the fund at a party meeting in Nellore on Wednesday. He donated ₹10 lakh on his behalf.

The proposal received overwhelming support from party activists and senior leaders. Former minister Ponguru Narayana, who was also present at the party meeting, expressed his solidarity with the cause and announced a donation of ₹25 lakh.

Following this, other party leaders also came forward to donate various amounts for the cause.

Beeda Ravichandra said the legal fund has become imperative at this critical time, when TD leaders and workers are facing a barrage of cases initiated by YSRC government. Many individuals within the party are struggling to bear the associated court expenses.

“As there is a sense of urgency, we have taken it upon ourselves to cover the legal costs by starting the legal fund,” Ravichandra added.
