Warangal: The funeral of Marri Pravallika, who died by suicide at a hostel in Ashoknagar of Hyderabad on October 13 over allegedly not being able to land a government job, was held under tight police security at Bikkajipally of Duggondi mandal in Warangal on Saturday.

The Marri family’s native village was the epicentre of visits of BJP, BSP and Congress leaders as well those of student organisations who took part in the funeral procession.

Pravallika, 23, the eldest daughter of Marri Lingaiah Yadav and Vijaya, moved to Hyderabad to prepare for competitive examinations in 2021, after completing her graduation from a Hanamkonda college. Her younger brother Pranay is pursuing an engineering degree in Narsampet. Pravallika’s parents depend on their three acres of land.

Vijaya told Deccan Chronicle: “We had a lot of hopes for our daughter. We thought she would soon get a government job and we will celebrate the festival together. I never expected that my daughter will come back in such a state.”

Bandari Ramesh and Gangula Ravinder, residents of the village, said the couple used to do farming and work as farm labour to earn extra income to educate their children.

Many villagers claimed that the police were trying to close the case by showing a fake suicide note and hiding the original one in which Pravallika had allegedly blamed the government.

Political representatives, who sat on a dharna, alleged that Pravallika had lost hope due to the cancellation of multiple examinations. They demanded that the government sanction ex gratia of at least '50 lakh and a government job to a family member.

As the police tried to end the dharna, a heated argument ensued, following which political and student leaders were detained at a nearby police station.
