Trio held with 360 kg marijuana on route to UP
Hyderabad: Three interstate marijuana peddlers transporting 360 kg of the contraband in an XUV from Andhra Pradesh to Uttar Pradesh were intercepted and arrested by a team of LB Nagar SOT and Abdulapurmet police on Wednesday night.
“Based on a tip-off, both teams got activated on Wednesday night and intercepted an XUV near Sampoorna Hotel on Abdullapurmet ORR,” said G. Sudheer Babu, Rachakonda police commissioner, in a press meet on Thursday.
The arrested accused were identified as Vikas Tyagi, 29, Abrar, 30, and Md Amiruddin, 32, all natives of Uttar Pradesh. Four mobile phones and '1 crore were also recovered from their possession.
The police said that the trio came in contact with a peddler in Ghaziabad of Uttar Pradesh and struck a deal as he offered them a good share to transport the contraband. They used to collect the same from a supplier in Rajahmundry and transport it to Meerut in UP.
To evade police checks at toll plazas, the accused had affixed the FasTag of another vehicle on it. Further, one of them used to get down ahead of a toll plaza, do a recce, and give the go-ahead.
The police said the contraband was packed in 72 consignments of 5 kg each. They are making efforts to identify the supplier and the receiver.
The accused were booked under relevant sections of the IPC and NDPS Act.
