Kannur: Kalolsavam to begin today
The 57th state school Kalolsavam will be here from Jan 16 to 22 at 20 specially designed venues.
Kannur: After a decade, Kannur is ready again to play host for Asia’s largest school cultural festival. The 57th state school Kalolsavam will be here from Jan 16 to 22 at 20 specially designed venues.
Organising committee chairman Ramachandran Kadannappally, the port minister, said, “We would like to call this as a green and eco-friendly Kalolsavam as we have adopted all the measures to make it the most attractive and plastic free."
Director of Public Instruction (DPI) KV Mohan Kumar will hoist a flag at the main venue Police Ground and announce the grand opening of the festival at 9.30 am Monday.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate the event at 4 pm on the same day at the main venue, and education minister Prof C. Raveendranath will preside over the function.
Representing the 57th State School Kalolsavam, 57 teachers of Kannur will be presenting the welcome song accompanied by dance performances of schoolkids.
Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala will inaugurate the concluding day ceremony on Jan 22 and the education minister, who will preside over the function, will announce the overall champions.
Nearly 12,000 students from various parts of the state will be participating in 232 events under High School, Higher Secondary, Arabic and Sanskrit categories.
The cultural performances will be inaugurated on Tuesday by writer T. Padmanabhan at District Panchayath Hall, followed by various seminar presentations in the coming days.
