Tamil Nadu on alert monitoring Kumari fishermen in Arabian sea
As of now the statutory warning to Kanyakumari and Tuticorin district fishermen stays and we are monitoring the situation.
Chennai: Search is on the for the missing fishermen who sailed from Kanyakumari in 22 multi day fishing vessels and thousands fishermen who ventured into the sea in small boats and catamaran have returned safely to the coast, commissioner of revenue administration and disaster management K Sathyagopal told DC.
“We are constantly in touch with the central agencies informing them about the TN fishermen now fishing deep in the Arabian Sea and the weather department has alerted that the depression over the next 24 hours will weaken along the Indian coast”, the CRA said. As of now the statutory warning to Kanyakumari and Tuticorin district fishermen stays and we are monitoring the situation.
When asked about the status of Kurangani fire tragedy, Sathyagopal said that the rescue operation was completed within 12 hours and the survivors hospitalised.
A total of 868 personnel and villagers were roped for the operation in which they ferried the victims, gave first aid, created a green corridor to rush them to hospitals, Sathyagopal said.
