Meat export company gets relief

Hyderabad: Justice J. Sreenivas Rao of the Telangana High Court made absolute an interim order passed for conducting a post-mortem and ante-mortem examinations of animals by veterinary surgeons. A petition in this regard was filed by Frigerio Conserva Allana Ltd, a company which is into meat export.

The company was aggrieved by the inaction of the director of the animal husbandry in assigning veterinary surgeons to the company for conducting ante-mortem and post-mortem examinations of animals for slaughter, as per law.

The counsel for the petitioner contended that as per the Supreme Court directions, the procedure of ante and post-mortem must be conducted, and a pre-shipment certificate must be issued by the animal husbandry authorities.

After hearing both sides, the court directed the animal husbandry authorities to assign veterinary surgeons to conduct the mandatory procedures for the company. The judge accordingly closed the writ petition.
