Kochi: The government machinery was  used to silence the officials who tried  to prevent the fireworks display in the Puttingal temple, CPM politburo member Pinarayi Vijayan said on Wednesday. “The reports  about the incident show  the culpability of the government. The home department is in the dock,” he told reporters here.

“The observations by the High Court are against the government,” he added.  “It is natural that the government machinery fails  when the government itself commits the mistake,” he said. On the demand for banning fireworks,  he said that the party would convey its decision at the all-party meeting convened  by the government.
