IPL betting racket busted, cops freeze account with over Rs 1.42 crore cash
HYDERABAD: Sleuths from SOT, LB Nagar zone, and Chaitanyapuri police on Saturday busted an IPL-2023 betting racket and arrested three organisers and seized Rs 20 lakh cash and froze their bank account, whose balance was Rs 1,42,07,573.
The police received a tip-off that the accused were collecting huge betting amounts from punters for the Sunrisers Hyderabad and KKR match at Eden Garden, Kolkata.
They arrested Basanti Boutique, Edukulla Jagadeesh, Jakkireddy Ashok Reddy and Vodupu Charan, who were operating from a rented house in Chaitanyapuri.
Jagadeesh is a sub-bookie, who is into cricket betting and Ashok Reddy is a real estate agent, who during interrogation said that he had lost close to Rs 100 crore in the last 12 years.
Charan, a software employee, works as collection agent for accused Suresh (Shiva) who is absconding. They all worked under the kingpin Vipul Monga from Haryana. He is also absconding, said Rachakonda police commissioner, D. S. Chauhan Rachakonda police commissioner at a press conference.
“The three who have been arrested will be behind bars soon,” Chauhan said.
