‘Harassed’ girl seeks TC from College
Governor P. Sathasivam had sought a report from the Vice-Chancellor on the incident.
Thiruvananthapuram: The first-year degree student of University College, who attempted to commit suicide following the harassment from SFI activists recently, has applied for a transfer certificate to the Sree Narayana College, Varkala.
Principal-in-charge G. Santhosh Kumar told the girl, who came along with her parents, that such issues will not happen in future and promised steps to ensure her safe study in the college.
They later met Vice-Chancellor V.P. Mahadevan Pillai who promised to get her admitted to any college she wanted. She will get the TC after her admission at Varkala college is confirmed.
The girl, 19, from Alamcode near Attingal had alleged in a note that her studies were affected by over-politicisation of the campus. Some women office-bearers of SFI had harassed her for not taking part in their organisational activities, she said.
In her statement before the Attingal court, she held none responsible for the turn of events. The Attingal police registered a case against her for the suicide attempt.
Governor P. Sathasivam had sought a report from the Vice-Chancellor on the incident. Earlier, Higher Education Minister K.T. Jaleel had also sought a report from higher education secretary Usha Titus.
