7 women labourers died in road accident

KAKINADA: Seven women labourers of a shrimp unit at Korangi died in a road accident in Tallarevu Mandal of Kakinada district on Sunday afternoon.

According to police, a group of 14 women were returning to their homes from work by an auto. A Hyderabad-based private travel bus hit a traffic divider and ran over the auto near the Seetharamapuram-Subbarayudu centre close to Korangi Panchayat. The auto driver jumped out and saved himself. Six women died on the spot and another woman died in the GGH.

Seven women were injured and were shifted to a private hospital from the GGH at Kakinada. Of these, the condition of two women was critical.

Bokka Anantha Lakshmi (47) of Fransthippa of Yanam, Chintapalli Jyothi (38) of Venkatanagar in Yanam, Kalli Padma (38) of Kotha Bus Stand, Nimmakayala Lakshmi (54) of Kurasampeta, Karri Parvathi  (42) of Mettakurru village Chesetti Venkata Lakshmi (41) of Kursampeta died on the spot.

Gudapaneti Satyavathi (38) of Fransthippa of Yanam died while under treatment in GGH, Kakinada.

Notla Satyaveni, Malladi Ganga Bhavani, Voleti Lakshmi, Racha Venkateswaramma, Kotineelima, Budapaneti Prabhavathi  and Chintapalli Mangayamma  were admitted to a private hospital in Achampet area near Kakinada.

Kakinada Rural MLA Kurasala Kannababu, Mummidivaram MLA Ponnada Satish and Yanam MLA Gollapalli Ashok rushed to the spot and also went to the GGH and said steps were being taken to provide ex-gratia to the families of the deceased.

All these women belonged to poor families and worked as labourers. They were going to the shrimp unit at Korangi daily.  They were 10 minutes away from their homes when the mishap occurred.
