Kollam: ABVP activists attack school; teacher hurt
The school suffered an estimated loss of Rs 50,000 in the attack.
KOLLAM: In an attack unleashed in the pretext of education strike, a teacher was injured and the school was vandalized by ABVP workers at Kavanadu here on Friday. Nidhin Thaha (25), the physical education teacher with the Lake Ford CBSE school in Kavanad has been admitted to the Kollam district hospital with serious injuries. According to the school authorities, a four-member ABVP gang barged into the school office by 9.15 am vandalizing the office furniture and computers there.
Nidhin Thaha, who reached the school by that time had his shirt torn off and then thrashed using bricks. He endured serious wounds on his head and chest. The culprits later entered the verandah of the school and took down the notice boards which fell over the students. A first standard student sustained minor injuries after the board fell over him. A Social Studies teacher present in the office room sustained injury on her forehead after a chair was thrown at her, alleged the authorities. The parents and school bus drivers intervened which prevented further damage to the school and lives of the children there. The school suffered an estimated loss of Rs 50,000 in the attack.
