Congress leaders sans group left with very few options

Thiruvananthapuram: The Congress organisational revamp will be completed in November as per the agreement reached between former chief minister Oommen Chandy and Opposition Leader Ramesh Chennithala on sharing of party posts. The seat-sharing pact has been opposed by those who are not affiliated to any groups. Congress MP Sudarshan Nachiappan, the returning officer for organisational elections, will visit the state on September 22 or 23 when a decision will be taken on sharing of posts, said a Congress leader.
The new AICC president will be appointed in October when Mr Rahul Gandhi would take over. A consensus may be reached on a panel of names for the new KPCC president this month. While most of the MPs who attended the 21- member Political Affairs Committee meeting on Wednesday objected to the sharing formula agreed upon by the two factions, former KPCC president V.M. Sudheeran threatened to revolt against it. As per the agreement, the respective groups will get a replacement from the same group if a particular leader has agreed to step down or if there is a death of a leader. PCC chief M.M. Hassan has promised to find an amicable solution.
