UDF plans stir on October 5

The UDF will hold a district-level leadership convention at Malappuram DCC office on September 20 to prepare for the by-poll on October 11.

Thiruvananthapuram: The  UDF will conduct day-and-night protest meetings in front of the secretariat and all the collectorates against the ‘anti-people’  policies of the LDF government on October  5.    Opposition Leader Ramesh Chennithala will also take out a  Kerala Yatra from Manjeswaram from November 1 to highlight the failures of the  LDF and BJP governments. The yatra, which will be inaugurated by senior Congress leader A. K. Antony, will conclude in Thiruvananthapuram when  AICC vice- president Rahul Gandhi will attend it.

Mr  Chennithala told reporters after the UDF meeting here on Thursday that the front  will be happy if  the Kerala Congress (M) decides to support the UDF candidate in the Vengara Assembly by-election.  The Muslim League’s candidate will be finalised on September 19 or  20.  He hoped that this time the winning margin of the League candidate will surpass that of the  2016 Assembly elections. "The Vengara by-poll will be a verdict on the performance of the BJP - LDF governments at the centre and in the state.

The  ongoing protests on the Kovalam Palace issue and the alleged encroachments by Transport Minister Thomas Chandy and P. V. Anwar will continue, he said.
