Tenali metal sculptors craft PM's 14-foot iron statue
They made a 10-foot tall iron statue of Mahatma Gandhi using 75,000 nuts, which attracted large crowds
VIJAYAWADA: A 14-foot-tall iron statue of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been crafted from iron scrap by two sculptures of Tenali – Katuri Venkateswara Rao and Ravichandra. Called “Iron Man Modi”, the statue has been commissioned by a Bangalore-based organisation.
Venkateswara Rao and his son Ravichandra have been making statues and various objects using iron scrap since past 10 years at their workshop in Tenali.
Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, Ravichandra said three months ago, they made a 10-foot tall iron statue of Mahatma Gandhi using 75,000 nuts, which attracted large crowds. Having learnt about this Gandhi statue, an organisation from Bangalore contacted them and sought PM Modi statue with iron nuts.
Ravichandra said he and his father with 10 other persons worked for two months to make the Prime Minister’s statue using two tonnes of iron nuts. They have put the PM’s statue on display till it is taken to Bangalore by its owners.
Tenali MLA Annabattuni Siva Kumar praised the father-son duo for making the Iron Man Modi statue from scrap.
