Visakhapatnam: 51 students of a residential school under Parawada police station limits in Anakapalli district fell ill after eating contaminated food in their hostel. They were rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared that they were all fine.

According to preliminary reports, a cockroach in a food item was the cause of the incident.

According to police, 102 students are residing in the BC welfare boys' hostel in Thanam village of Paravada mandal.

On Wednesday morning, 95 of them had breakfast that included idli and groundnut chutney in the hostel mess. After half an hour, they went to their classrooms in the school. Among them, 51 students vomited. Parawada mandal educational officer Sunitha alerted the medical staff of the local primary health centre. Doctor Ranjith and his team reached the spot and treated the students.
