1,440 contract employees denied regularisation in Telangana
HYDERABAD: The state government has regularised all contract employees working in government degree, junior, and polytechnic colleges. However, more than 1,440 contract employees who have been working in 12 state universities for decades have been denied regularisation by Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao.
Assistant professors from the universities staged a protest at Arts College on the Osmania University campus on Thursday to protest against the state government, denying them regularisation.
Dr Dharma Teja, president of Telangana All Universities Contract Teachers (TAUCT)-Joint Action Committee (JAC), told Deccan Chronicle that of the 1,440 contract employees, approximately 330 contract assistant professors are posted in Osmania University.
"For 10 days, we have been on protest demanding immediate regularisation. Almost all of us have PhDs apart from more than 15 years of teaching experience,” Teja said.
Stating that they had participated in the statehood movement, he urged the Chief Minister to consider their plea. If not, they would intensify their protest and take the support of non-teaching staff, government professors, and students.
S. Sravanthi, assistant professor of the Department of Informatics, Nizam College, said, "We have been waiting for several months for the state government to take up the process of regularisation. We hope KCR will make a decision in our favour."
"He had assured in 2015 to regularise services of all professors working across varsities in the state," said Dr. M. Rameshwar Rao, assistant professor of the OU commerce department.
Dr. G. Venkateshwarlu, assistant professor, at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, OU, stated that the state government should handle issues concerning all contract employees on priority.
"First and second-year classes for all PG students have begun. Students are also backing our cause. The state government will not be burdened by the regularization." he said.
