Online test report system introduced in Thiruvananthapuram medical college
Patients, bystanders spared the hustle of running from lab to lab for obtaining reports.
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: With the system of providing results from various diagnostic laboratories online to doctors in wards coming into being, from now on patients and their bystanders will not have to run from lab to lab to get their reports at the Trivandrum Medical College. The reports from hospital development society laboratory, Xray unit, CT Scan and MRI Scan unit would now be available on the computers of doctors concerned in their respective wards in real time. Once the results are sent online the message regarding the same would appear on the registered cell phone number of bystander. He should immediately convey the message to the doctor concerned.
The results can be procured by sowing the bill number or the name of the patient. The new system would help the doctors to start treatment without waiting for hours for the laboratory test reports. Moreover, it will also help MCH authorities to avoid films as part of green protocol. On an average 2,500 persons come to central laboratory and 1,500 at the HDS laboratory for giving blood samples for test daily. On an average at the X-ray unit, CT scan and MRI unit 600, 200 and 40 persons come daily to get their tests done. As all these diagnostic centres are located at different places on the medical college campus, the bystanders have to walk from lab to lab to get the results. In cases where the patients require multiple tests, the bystanders have to visit these laboratories several times in a day.
The MCH authorities had received scores of complaints regarding the delay in getting results from different laboratories. In view of the huge inconvenience faced by the patients and their bystanders, health minister K.K. Shailaja had taken the initiative to set up the online system. A similar system implemented at the casualty wing and the messaging system is working well. Hospital superintendent Dr M.S. Sharmad and deputy superintendent Dr Santosh Kumar played a key role in bringing in this hi-tech system. New software was installed and a new networking system was also created for this purpose. At the moment the authorities are developing a mobile App on which the reports of diagnostic test reports would be made available at a faster pace.
