Bengaluru: City Mayor G. Padmavathi, who inspected the ongoing works to restore the stormwater drain next to Gali Anjaneya Temple on Mysore Road, on Monday slammed BBMP chief engineer for stormwater drain K. Siddegowda for not desilting the drain. The BBMP has missed all its earlier deadlines to complete the SWD works.

“Even after spending crores of rupees to restore the SWD, what is the point if proper measures are not taken to desilt it and prevent garbage being dumped into it,” she asked the BBMP officials.

BBMP officials tried to protect themselves by putting the blame on BWSSB for not desilting the drains. But the Mayor did not pay heed to the excuses and directed the officials to complete the works within 30 days.

Later, she inspected the work to build the underpass near the Karnataka Housing Board junction on Magadi Road. She was unhappy with the pace and directed the officials to complete the underpass by April.
