Hyderabad: The ruling Congress and opposition BJP remained silent on Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan’s speech to the joint session of the Telangana state Legislature, which presented the government’s agenda on Friday.

In her speech, the Governor said the development was affected in the past 10 years due to the anti-people policies in place then. The Governor had assured that the Congress government would bring revive the finances by implementing the Six Guarantees.

Though the Cabinet had approved the Governor's speech, there was no response from Congress MLAs on the speech. It is common in democracy for parties to express their views on the Governor's address. The BRS, however, dismissed the Governor’s address as a “bunch of lies she was made to speak by the government” and took serious objection to her speech talking about “repression” and how the state felt liberated after the elections.

Senior BRS leader and MLA Kadiam Srihari, accompanied by several party MLAs and MLCs, said, “We hoped that her address will provide a road map on how the Congress government plans to implement its promises to the people.”

There was no clarity on how the government planned to solve the problems faced by the people, no mention of the '500 bonus assured to paddy farmers, or implementation of the Dalit Bandhu scheme. “It appears like the Congress government is already turning its back on its promises,” he said.

Srihari also objected to the Governor speaking about how the state was under repression and how it now felt liberated. He said this was far from the truth and the Governor should not have spoken in this manner.

“The address made it appear as if there was no development in Telangana in the last ten years. In fact, the state has received many national and international awards for its welfare and development programmes, for beautification of Hyderabad,” he said.
