Tirupati: The Municipal Corporation of Tirupati has approved a budget of Rs.346 crore for the financial year 2024-2025.

The MCT council meeting, held at Sri Venkateswara University senate hall here on Thursday, was chaired by Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams trust board chairman and city MLA Bhumana Karunakar Reddy.

Addressing the council as a special invitee, Karunakar Reddy noted that the approved budget estimates were a testament to the municipal council's dedication to the overall progress and comprehensive development of the temple city.

One notable allocation in the budget is Rs.1.99 crore earmarked for urgent repairs at the Telugu Ganga pump house. Additionally, a significant portion of the budget, Rs.34.6 crore, has been allocated for payment to 1,557 outsourcing workers.

Bhumana noted that this decision would positively impact the livelihood of the workers and contribute substantially to the local economy.

Deputy mayor Bhumana Abhinay Reddy put forward a proposal to provide spiritual names to five newly developed master plan roads, so as to infuse a “cultural and religious touch” to the temple city's infrastructure. The proposal was unanimously approved by the council.

As a result, the newly developed road adjacent to the TTD administrative building has been named Candadai Ramanuja Iyengar Marg, while the 40-feet road linking the Sarojini Devi Road to Nehru Municipal School grounds has been christened Achyuta Devaraya Marg.

Three other newly developed roads have been named Vaikhanasa Agama Marg, Pancharathra Agama Marg, and Kanaka Dasu Marg.

“Naming of these roads reflects the rich cultural and spiritual heritage of Tirupati. It adds a distinctive identity to the city's expanding infrastructure,” the deputy mayor said.

“With this budget, the municipal council aims to address critical infrastructure needs, support outsourcing workers and contribute to the holistic development of the temple city,” he added.
