Hyderabad: The fire that devastated Secunderabad Club left the nearby residents in a tizzy right from the early hours of Sunday.

“We noticed the flames last night but were unsure of its enormity,” said most of them.

“I was attending an online watch party when I noticed the fire from my window around 3:30 am”, said Kaushik Raj, a resident of Picket, which is adjacent to the Club’s rear entrance.

“I called my father who checked with the local police, who confirmed the fire mishap and that the rescue operations were underway,” he said.

Had it happened an hour earlier, the heavy rain would have stopped the spread, said Jyosthna, a resident of Marredpally, who noticed the smoke from her house.

“I tried to take a photo but it was too dark. I initially thought someone might have made a bonfire as the area across Jubilee bus station is often crowded. It was scary to see smoke flaring up. I woke up to the news of the fire inside Secunderabad Club,” she said.
