Cusat beckons Class X students
Nearly 40 selected students from government and aided colleges from across the state will present their innovations' at the fest.
Kochi: The Department of Physics, Cochin University of Science and Technology (Cusat), in association with the Centre of Alternative Energy Studies is set to conduct a workshop on ‘physics-scope and awareness’ for school students who are entering Class 10 this year. The workshop will be held from April 3 to April 7 at the Physics Department of the university.
“The workshop will provide opportunities for the students to interact with the faculty members, witness some of the advanced experiments being carried out in the research laboratories of physics department and also gain hands on experience on various core experiments in physics. These include ohm’s law verification, determining focal length of lense and mirror, simple pendulum, defraction experiment with lasers and sky watching ,” said Dr Junaid Bushiri, head of the department of physics at Cusat.
Students are required to apply in the format given and the applications must be duly recommended by the respective heads of the institutions along with the attested copies of Class IX (academic year 2015-16) half yearly examination mark list. The filled application should be received at Dr. V. S. Pradeep, convener, ‘Physics-Scope and Awareness Workshop-2017, Department of Physics, Cusat-22 on or before March 27. In another initiative the Department of Physics is organising a five day ‘Innovations in Research Awareness Fest’ from March 18.
Nearly 40 selected students from government and aided colleges from across the state will present their ‘innovations’ at the fest. Education Minister C Raveendranath will officially inaugurate the fest at Department of Physics auditorium on March 19. Cash prizes and certificates will be presented to the candidates. Experts from IIT and IISc among others will take classes in the workshop even as public will be allowed to visit the physics laboratories during the fest.
