Form SIT to probe Avatar: KSHRC

The order has been issued to the home secretary and the state DGP on a complaint filed by a native of Thrissur.

Thrissur: The Kerala State Human Rights Commission has ordered to form a special investigation team to probe the antecedents of a firm known as Avatar Gold and Diamond allegedly involved in swindling Rs 150 cr from around 600 persons in Thrissur and Malappuram districts. In an order issued on Wednesday K Mohankumar, member of the commission, instructed that the team should be headed by a senior official who has proved his mettle in probing such cases.

Otherwise the investigation should be entrusted with an official of the SP rank having experience in probing cases connected with economic offences, the order said. The order has been issued to the home secretary and the state DGP on a complaint filed by a native of Thrissur.

The complainant stated that the accused are leading a luxurious life after cheating several people by taking deposits promising high returns. The police has been found inactive despite incidents of depositors committing suicide, the complainant said.
