Rich tributes paid to Amarajeevi Potti Sriramulu on his birth anniversary
TIRUPATI: The district administrations of Chittoor, Tirupati, Nellore and Prakasam as also the police and other entities paid rich tributes to Amarajeevi Potti Sriramulu, on his 123rd birth anniversary on Thursday.
Potti Sriramulu had sacrificed his life for the cause of a separate state for Telugus.
Tirupati collector Venkataramana Reddy and SP Parameswara Reddy offered floral tributes to the portrait of Sriramulu at their offices. They hailed the services of Potti Sriramulu as a freedom fighter and as a leader who sacrificed his life for the formation of a separate state on linguistic basis while demanding a separation from the then Madras State.
Chittoor SP Rishanth Reddy offered floral tributes to the photo statue of Potti Sriramulu at his office. He recalled the heroic fast-unto-death undertaken by Sriramulu and his fight against many social evils including untouchability. He called upon the younger generation to emulate the ideals set by Amarajeevi.
Prakasam collector Dinesh Kumar and SP Mallika Garg paid glowing tributes to Amarajeevi by garlanding his statue at their offices. The collector said Potti Sriramulu had fought for social reforms and also for the pride and development of the Telugu people. SP Mallika said Sriramulu who actively took part in the Satyagraha and Quit India movements had been jailed repeatedly.
At an event at the collectorate in Nellore, district collector Chakradhar Babu and other officials garlanded the portrait of Potti Sriramulu. Several political parties including the YSR Congress, Telugu Desam, Jana Sena and left parties paid tributes to Amarajeevi Sriramulu at their party offices.
