Trial programme huge success.
KOZHIKODE: Calicut University is keen on starting training programmes in public speaking for civic body members in an elaborate way after the trial programme they conducted became a huge success. The training programme is conducted by the Lifelong Learning and Extension department of the University in order to make the newly elected members to the civic bodies capable of speaking in public without any stage fright.
During the first phase of the programme last month, several public servants attended the training and demanded that long-duration courses be held in future to address their issues better while talking to a crowd or at a meeting.
Speaking to DC, Lifelong Learning and Extension department head Dr E.M Manogem said that the department would think of conducting such programmes after the elections and even hold bridge courses. “When we conducted the first round of training programme, we got a tremendous response from the participants. They have demanded further classes be held in future,” she said. “Most of the participants were first time members and they attended with sheer dedication,” she added.
“It was a great experience for us. The resource person helped us a lot to remove that fear from our mind when addressing a public gathering. We need more such programmes from the varsity in future,” said V Sathi, Thenjippalam, Panchayat Vice President.
Calicut University Vice Chancellor Dr K Mohammed Basheer added that the training programme made a positive impact on the oratory skills of the people’s representatives.
