Kollam temple fire: Relief distribution gathers steam

Kollam: Protesting against the delay in distributing aid to the injured in the Paravur temple tragedy, Chathannoor MLA G.S. Jayalal staged a sit-in  before the Paravoor village office here on Friday. Mr. Jayalal claimed that he had received several complaints that the  majority of people who sought treatment at various hospitals in the district were not given  immediate relief. He also demanded the intervention of the Chief Minister in the matter.

District collector A. Shainamol told DC that the distribution of relief will be completed by Saturday. “The details of patients who got discharged from hospitals after treatment are being collected and the money will be distributed by Saturday,” she said.

The district administration had given  Rs 10,000 each for 61 persons the next day of the disaster. As many as 378 persons who sought treatment at various hospitals in Kollam were given Rs 5,000 each as immediate relief, she added.

The guidelines to collect the details of the relatives of the dead  to avail of Rs 10 lakh compensation announced by the state government are expected by Saturday. The compensation will be distributed once the details are collected by various government agencies as per the guidelines.
