Police raid is on at Aroor near Nadapuram where a bomb was thrown at the house of a Congress worker on Friday.

KOZHIKODE: The Vadakara rural police have intensified the raids on the trouble-prone rural division on Friday in the backdrop of the death of a youth at Azhiyur near Vadakara  on Thursday.

Rahul Jith, 24, son of Vasudevan, was killed while a cracker burst  piercing his  neck during Vishu celebrations. He  died on way to the Medical College Hospital.  In another incident,  four Muslim League workers were held by Nadapuram police in connection with throwing bombs at the house of a Congress worker at Aroor near Nadapuram.

A disaster was averted  as the bomb hauled by the culprits at the house of Kinarullakandi Narayanan, a Congress worker, failed to explode. Vadakara circle inspector V.K. Viswambaran told DC that dog and bomb squads were on  alert in the region.

The death of the boy was believed to be due to careless handling of crackers, he added. Meanwhile, the city police seized 4000 kilograms of illegal crackers  from various parts of the city. At Koyilandy, the raids were on and police seized 3530 kilograms of crackers and stored explosives.

Over six persons were arrested for storing crackers beyond the permitted limits and also for illegal storing of crackers. Five cases were registered in Kozhikode city, Medical College, Kundamangalam and Nadakkavu.
