Srisailam temple starts plantation activity

KURNOOL: The Srisailam temple has started a plantation activity in a traditional way on the Ring Road on Sunday.

The Devasthanam would plant more saplings at various places within the limits of the temple area to protect the environment and beautify the zone. Temple executive officer A Lavanna launched the  activity and said plants like Kadambam, Neem, Banyan, Ravi, Juvvi, Kanuga, Akasha Malli, Pedda Aare, Neredu etc were being planted.

A Ganpati puja was performed to ensure that the plantation drive continued uninterruptedly.

More saplings like Bilvam, Kadambam, Amla, Medi etc would be planted at suitable places to create a more spiritual atmosphere in the area, the EO said.

Similarly, trees like lemon, mango, coconut, etc. could be planted in parks. Shade trees should also be planted in dry areas close to the temple limits, he said.

The EO urged officials to design a programme for planting trees throughout the monsoon season. The EE of the Devasthanam, V Ramakrishna, retired assistant director of the horticulture department Eswara Reddy, horticulture officer Lokesh, archakas and others participated in the programme.
