Protests as frequent power cuts add to people's woes in Uttar Pradesh.
Lucknow: Temperatures continue to soar in Uttar Pradesh with Lucknow touching 45 degrees Celsius, Banda touching 46.8 degree Celsius and Allahabad soaring to 47 degree Celsius.
Frequent power cuts added to the heat wave conditions and people came out on the streets to protest against the power outages.
Ashutosh Kumar, chief engineer of Lucknow Electricity Supply Administration informed that the power demand has peaked by 25 per cent in the last few days. He, however, assured that the supply would be normalised soon.
UP power minister Shrikant Sharma has been claiming that round-the-clock power supply is being ensured in major cities and 18 hours long power supply in smaller towns.
Lucknow, the state capital, has been experiencing frequent power disruptions.
Angry residents in Telibagh and South City areas barged into a sub-station late on Sunday night to protest long duration of unscheduled power cuts. Harihar Nagar, India Nagar, Aliganj and Mahanagar too, have been suffering from unduly long power cuts.
Power cuts here last close to six hours on an average and power supply officials blame it on overloading, local faults.
The met office here said on Monday that temperatures would cross 45 degree Celsius in most places over the next 48 hours
In the past 24 hours, the mercury has crossed 44 degrees Celsius at most places, the Met official said.
