Chennai: A day after a WhatsApp video of a Madras high court advocate abusing traffic constable went viral,  top police officers have instructed inspectors to register cases against those who harass traffic cops while enforcing law.

The instructions come after the video of the advocate based in Aminjikarai was discussed with the city police commissioner A. K. Viswanathan. The matter was also taken up with a couple of Madras high court judges, confirmed a highly placed official source.

The traffic police are now vulnerable due to the simmering rage among people of Tamil Nadu and this has made the job of police tough with blatantly questioning the action of men in khaki. The accused, advocate, will definitely face action as per law and the issue is left to the local police to take suitable action, the source said.

The video of lawyer abuses the traffic policeman as the former was stopped for jumping the signal near Ampa Skywalk mall on Monday morning.

A few local officials have also advised to leave the advocate after a stern warning adding that the media and the social media have already defamed his image.

Meanwhile the traffic police are likely to hold a meeting with those attending car accessories particularly attached to the sunfilms banned as per the Supreme Court order.

Drink and drive, helmet, signal violation are already stressful and now we are to focus on the cars that have dark sunglasses and this is going to add more head ache for us,” rued a traffic constable in Egmore adding that Chennai due to its hot condition forces people to use sunfilm in their cars.
