Hyderabad: New plan seeks closed flyovers in Army area
Around 6 lakh people will be affected with the Army restriction.
Hyderabad: Residents of the East corridor of Cantonment Yapral, Bolarum, Alwal affected by the military’s night hour restriction have come up with a comprehensive alternative route, once the roads are permanently closed by the Army. They demand that their plan should be discussed with the Defence Minister during his visit to Hyderabad on June 17.
The two alternative routes sanctioned by the state urban development ministry — Safilguda to Allahabad Gate 2 and Ramakrishnapuram to Safilguda gate — will not help residents of Yapral, Balajinagar, Kowkoor and Sainikpuri. Residents questioned the absence of plans to build alternative roads to the northeastern areas of the city as ordered by the Hyderabad High Court, thus they have come up with their own plan.
Residents state that a flyover is needed from Bajajinagar to Lakdawala Gate and by pass road to Yapral, the alternative route will not only address the military concern of security but also will look after the citizens’s free moment.
Around 6 lakh people will be affected with the Army restriction, this is the first time that residents from East corridor have come up with the alternative plan. Earlier, the plan proposed by Malkajgiri residents was accepted by the government.
Some residents met the Special Chief Secretary, Ministry of Municipal Administration and Urban Development, Mr M.G. Gopal and submitted the plan,
Mr Chandra Shekar from OSCAR (Open all Secunderabad cantonment roads) explained, “Alternative roads must be provided in the Golf Course area too along with other roads to be closed in the future, Since any alternative road in this area would have to cross the BEPTA Golf Course, elevated, enclosed flyovers must be constructed. Before final plans are drawn up hearings must be held.”
