Chennai: Citing contradictory reports on techie Swathi’s murder case, DMK chief M. Karunanidhi said hundreds of culprits could escape, but an innocent should not be punished.

The DMK leader said Ramkumar’s father had accused that police had slit his son’s throat to silence him. If he had spoken, he would have denied the allegation, Ramkumar’s father had asserted.

Besides, Ramkumar’s lawyer Ramraj too had said there was no connection between the murder and Ramkumar. Police should answer suspicions if an innocent is being made a culprit, the DMK leader said and added that an innocent should not be punished even if hundred culprits escaped.

A senior police officer, however, denied that Ramkumar was innocent.
He said scientific investigation had proved that Ramkumar was the killer and added that the shirt with Swathi’s blood stains and her mobile had been recovered from Ramkumar’s room.
