Kerala not on tech bus, finds CM Pinarayi Vijayan

The CM said the IT turnover of Rs 10,000 crore was nowhere near Rs 5.2 lakh crore in India

Thiruvananthapuram: Technology Vision 2035 envisages an India with nano-robots and regenerative therapies. However, Kerala, in 2016, has a long way to go. observed Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan while inaugurating a discussion on ‘Technology Vision 2035’ document. He talked about how Kerala lagged behind even in IT sector and said that the state’s IT turnover of Rs 10,000 crore was several times less than the country’s turnover of Rs 5.2 lakh crore.

He said that development implies basic facilities. Road is the most important infrastructure, he said, but Kerala was among the states with the highest number of accidents. Technology should address such issues as the lack of transport facilities for entrepreneurs and professionals to industrial areas is a hindrance, he said. He said that Kerala needed a development model which laid emphasis on environment conservation. He said that the state should change for the better and be more suitable for industries and entrepreneurs.

The event is being organised by Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment in association with Technology Information, Forecasting and Assessment Council (TIFAC). council executive vice-president Suresh Das, TIFAC chairman Anil Kakodkar, TIFAC executive director Prabhat Ranjan and council member secretary George Varghese spoke.
