Restrictions imposed on earthmovers in Wayanad
In order to use earthmovers in leased land, the permission of the forest department is necessary.
KALPETTA: In a major bid to save the sensitive ecosystem of Wayanad, the district administration has imposed restrictions to use earthmovers (JCBs) in Wayanad district on Friday. In a press release on Friday, Wayanad district collector Kesavendra Kumar said that land owners should submit documents including land receipt and title deeds to revenue officials for perusal before getting permission to ensure that the land is not a paddy field, watershed zones and plantations.
In order to use earthmovers in leased land, the permission of the forest department is necessary. The order further restricts the land owners from using earthmovers during government holidays and also restricts the time from 7 am to 6 pm. In special cases, the permission of the collector should be obtained for exemptions.
The clearance from revenue and geology departments should be in the possession of the landowner for using earth movers. An awareness class would be organized soon for the owners of earthmovers at the Collectorate soon. It is to be recalled that the district administration had earlier banned construction of buildings with more than three floors in the ecologically sensitive zones of Wayanad.
