KURNOOL: Rayalaseema Saaguneeti Sadhana Samithi (RSSS) vice-presidents Y.N. Reddy and Yeruva Ramachandra Reddy expressed concerns over the deteriorating condition of the Gorukallu Reservoir, which is crucial for the SRBC project. During a meeting with SRBC deputy superintending engineer Rajendra Prasad at Nandyal on Saturday, they handed over a memorandum on the issues the reservoir was facing.

They raised alarm over the neglect of required maintenance work ahead of the monsoon season and explained the potential adverse impact on lakhs of affected farmers.

They mentioned that previously, RSSS president Bojja Dasaratharami Reddy had alerted irrigation officials about the weak embankments of the reservoir, for which, necessary action had been assured by the government for its safety. However, the current state of the earthen bunds has caused apprehensions among farmers, they said.

They emphasized the severe hardships faced by the people and livestock over the past five years due to the lack of drinking water. They cited instances of loss of life, property and employment due to the failure of the Annamayya project earlier.

They urged the irrigation department to take measures immediately to reinforce the Gorukallu Reservoir to avoid the recurrence of problems arising from improper maintenance. RRSSS executive committee members Bhaskar Reddy, Patnam Ramudu, Y Rami Reddy, Komma Srihari, Raghavendra Goud, and N Sudhakar Rao were present.
