Khairatabad Ganesh idol to be offered 500-kg laddu from Tapeswaram
Sweet maker Suruchi Foods from Tapeswaram had offered a 500-kg laddu to the idol in 2010 and kept up the practice.
Rajahmundry: The Khairatabad Ganesh idol will be offered a 500-kg laddu from Tapeswaram in East Godavari during the Ganesh Chaturthi festival starting on September 5.
Sweet maker Suruchi Foods from Tapeswaram had offered a 500-kg laddu to the idol in 2010 and kept up the practice. Last year, the sweet-maker offered its heaviest laddu of 6,000 kg.
The Khairatabad Ganesh Utsav Committee asked the sweet maker to limit the laddu to 500 kg this year. The reason given was the problem with distributing a large laddu to devotees.
The laddu is offered on the first day of the Ganesh Chathurthi festivities and will be put on display in front of the idol for 11 days. After the idol is immersed in the Hussainsagar lake, the laddu will be distributed to devotees. The Utsav Committee faced a tough time while distributing the laddu last year.
The sweet maker set up a pandal on Sunday to start the laddu-making exercise at its premises. Eleven men wearing 'Ganesh Mala' will prepare the laddu.
Suruchi Foods proprietor Polisetti Mallibabu said, “We have been offering laddu to the Ganesh idol at Khairatabad for six years and every year, the size would increase. This time, on a request from the committee, we are offering a laddu weighing 500 kg.”
