Speaking about some interesting facts about the official residence of the district collector, the officer said the foundation stone was laid by one Mrs George Palmer, the wife of a superintendent engineer during the Nizam’s rule around 133 years ago.
Upon research, it was confirmed through some signatures that George Palmer had indeed been a superintendent engineer who was in-charge of laying roads and constructing buildings in Warangal, Khammam, Karimnagar and surrounding areas.
She said the building definitely was an ancient one with a ceiling upto 20-ft high. There were also some leaky corners from where rainwater seeped in so renovation work was on.
The officer mentioned in the interview that there were several stories regarding the building. When she first took charge as the collector of the district and moved into the bungalow, the previous collectors had called her up to congratulate her.
She said they also mentioned that there was a ghost on the first floor and warned her not to sleep there. The place was more like a storeroom and looked dirty.
The collector said she had the whole place cleaned after moving in. She also remarked that she did not generally use that part of the building and definitely did not sleep in that room at night.
